Sydney's Story

by Sydney's Mom, Diana

Sydney while at his foster home

We suffered a terrible loss when our Border Collie, Kit, died in January. She was a child to us since my husband and I have no children. I knew we would not be complete without another Border Collie in the house. Who would we play ball with every 20 minutes? I prayed we would find another that would capture our hearts as Kit did, and that was a tall, tall order.

I began visiting the East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue web site and saw many worthy dogs, but it was not until I saw Sydney's photo, at the time named Magnus, that my heart actually melted.

We contacted Suzanne and found out that Sydney was born exactly a month after Kit died, which is exactly the day I prayed to find a dog to soothe our loss. Sydney came to live with us in May and he put smiles on all our faces, especially our racing Greyhound, Squirt, who we had adopted in March. Squirt just lit up the day he arrived, and the two have been a wonderful inseparable combination, just as we had predicted. Squirt has become much more playful, and she has a calming effect on Sydney when he gets a little too excited. Sydney is also wonderful with our three cats. He has many of the same characteristics as our Kit, but he is his own man with his own personality, which is absolutely adorable. He is very affectionate, plays ball, and loves the water. He has his favorite toy bear, but his sister Squirt is his most favorite plaything and cuddle partner. Our family is complete now and our hearts feel healed. Kit's legacy lives on because no house or heart is complete without a Border Collie to fill it! Thanks to your organization!
