Susie's Story

Shy and quiet, but a GREAT dog, so the
write-up said. Well, kind of, at least the great part!
Susie, a peanut-sized (55 lb.) Irish Wolfhound mix entered our cyber lives a few months ago. While searching the internet for an Irish Wolfhound or mix rescue dog, we saw her and decided she could be the one. |
After Susie tried out a couple possible homes, she found herself back with her foster mom, Karen. Then suddenly, in the space of 48 hours, there was a home visit and trip from Tennessee to Massachusetts in three different cars! While on a travel break in Connecticut (where I first met Susie face to face), she visited my godmother and also received an invitation for a return visit! What a weekend so far!
Susie was a little quiet the rest of the day following introduction to her new family of Mom, Dad, two human siblings, and three Labrador siblings. The next day she proceeded to smack two of the Labs in the head when she wanted to play (they obliged), let us know she likes couches, chew toys, and, quite naturally, people food! Car rides are pretty good, too! |

My son and Susie have adopted each other. Playtime is not that bad word exercise and bedtime shared with a canine buddy brings sweet dreams. All in all, Susie's not an Irish Wolfhound mix; she's just our Uberhund. |

I love Susie sooo much! She won't leave my side and follows me everywhere. I don't mind that, though. She is very cute. A bit smaller than I expected, but still cute. She sleeps by my feet and curls up in the blankets so I don't have any, but I can't blame her. |

Susie is so cuddly! I love her.

Susie evidently had a great time in the snow during the winter of '01-'02, according to the new photos her mom, Valerie, sent us recently. Apparently, Susie's fur is a snowflake magnet!

Susie's mom, Valerie, also sent us the following poem:
A Poem to My Foster Dog
I am the bridge
Between what was and what can be.
I am the pathway to a new life.
I am made of mush,
Because my heart melted when I saw you,
Matted and sore, limping, depressed,
Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love.
For one little time you are mine.
I will feed you with my own hand
I will love you with my whole heart
I will make you whole.
I am made of steel.
Because when the time comes,
When you are well, and sleek,
When your eyes shine,
And your tail wags with joy
Then comes the hard part.
I will let you go -- not without a tear,
But without a regret.
For you are safe forever -- A new dog needs me
now.
