Big Max
Back to Adoptables
Meet Big Max! Big Max simply loves people and is looking for his forever home. Among other things, Big Max loves to lounge around outside and or in his crate or just sidle up to his human and get a scratch behind the ear. Big Max is a very handsome approximately 5 to 6 year old rough-coated tri-colored neutered male Border Collie. He is up to date on vaccinations, is free of intestinal parasites, has tested heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventive and has been treated with flea preventive. He's also been microchipped. Big Max weighs about 45 lbs.
Big Max has a strong herding instinct and should not be in a household with small children. He tends to herd his foster brothers when they are running and chasing toys. He is a good natured dog, though and gets along with other dogs and enjoys playing with our energetic large Border Collie/Puppy. Big Max also thinks water from the hose is evil and likes to bite at it, but at the same time doesn't seem to mind getting wet from that evil water.
Big Max still needs a little work on leash walking. He is comfortable and relaxed when he gets to where he is going, such as PetCo for adoption events, but still needs some work on his confidence when walking on a leash. He is crate trained and house trained and has very nice house manners. He also rides beautifully in the car (he's always up for a road trip!).
This boy would thrive in a home with another dog-friendly dog, as he does like canine company (he has gotten along well in foster care with multiple dogs in the household) but he's pretty versatile; he would also enjoy being an only dog, as long as he gets lots of attention and involvement in family activities. He prefers a family with adults, or adults wtih dog-savvy adolescents over age 12.
Big Max is loving and devoted -- just a great, easy-going companion dog. He likes nothing more than putting his head in your lap for petting or laying at your feet. Big Max will enjoy regular walks and play time, but he also likes to hang out with his people or snooze on the porch in a safely fenced yard, every once in a while opening an eye to glance at the world going by. While he would prefer a home with a fenced yard, he would also do well with a conscientious family without a fence that will leash walk him and give him some physical activity several times a day. Because he does have herding instinct, he needs to be leashed or fenced when outside . we wouldn't want him to mistake a passing car for a wayward sheep and try to catch up with it! Big Max still needs work on leash walking, but gains more confidence every time his on the leash and gets better at it every time we walk.
He is very smart and learns things quickly . he is only limited by what you choose to teach him. He watches you very closely to see what you expect of him . mostly, he just wants to please you. His favorite trick so far is shaking hands with everyone he meets with a big smile on his face . yes, this guy is a grinner!
Big Max's vice? Turning over his water bowl! His new family will want to make sure to provide him with a heavy-duty bowl that he can't go surfing in! Big Max also likes to bark at a phantom bird or butterfly in his foster home's backyard.
If you are looking for a loving, devoted companion to share your life, Big Max might just be the perfect match for you. Big Max also attends most of our adoption events so please come meet him! He loves meeting potential forever people and families.

Prior to or upon adoption, all dogs in our rescue program are spayed/neutered (there are NO exceptions), fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, started on heartworm prevention, treated with flea and tick preventive, microchipped, and temperament tested. We also strive to crate and house train each dog before placement.
